PaD – Day 3

Three glasses of wine:  my poems are getting shorter.

 

posthumous.*

Nature realigns itself but mothers only lose hair.

I walk between museum walls to find portraits of their children.

Solemn boys too dead to visit.

Forever trapped in knickers.

 

*I was thinking about those “posthumous mourning portraits,” commissioned by the families of deceased children. Often the paintings used visual references, like storm clouds in the distance, to symbolize the child’s passing.
